tropical plant  events that reflect the ever-changing plant world in South Florida

Extravaganza Event

Searle Brothers Nursery’s keynote event is a large scale open house known as the extravaganza sale. The extravaganza is a highly anticipated plant sale that takes place twice a year in the spring and fall and is held over two weekends. During the event, the entire nursery is transformed into an epic plant event with growing areas, shade houses and roadways converted into a festival-like atmosphere for the tropical plant enthusiast.

Plants from all over the twenty acres are collected, moved and positioned in a sales area near the center of the nursery. The extravaganza has run for an impressive 20 years as of 2018. It has become a social norm for South Florida with a mailing list of several thousand people and an incredible following among the community. People can hardly wait for the next one!

The Biennial

The nursery is reflected throughout the world via numerous trips, expeditions and expositions to many different countries. The International Palm Society (IPS) organizes and conducts a palm-related symposium every two years, the Biennial, and features attendees from all over the world including the nursery.

During a recent Biennial in South Florida, the nursery was selected as one of the stops during the event. For many years, the nursery has been an attendee in the local tropical plant exposition, TPIE, conducted by its parent organization FNGLA.

Beyond the business itself, the nursery has become a social gathering spot for friends, family members and plant enthusiasts during events and activities.
