Searle Brothers Nursery's growing roots go back to the early 1900's when our ancestors raised tomatoes in Hallendale. Our dad, "Pops" started "Searle's Croton Nursery" in 1950. |
Our History |
The Rainforest Collection® was started in 1982 by Frank Searle and his three sons; Randy, Jeff, and Larry. In the beginning years, common landscape materials and some palms were grown mostly in containers with two acres set aside for field grown palms. In 1989, a visit to Fairchild Tropical Gardens in Miami was made by Jeff and Larry where many photographs were taken and realized just how many interesting palm trees there were. From that day on, Jeff was totally excited about growing new species of palms at the nursery. Soon after, Searle Brothers Nursery joined the International Palm Society and started to correspond with other members via long distance phone calls and faxes to obtain seeds that could be grown on and sold at local palm sales. Jeff's dedication to this day is unsurpassed. Over the years, Jeff has made several trips to many exotic countries to photograph and collect seed of species found in habitat. His excitement and enthusiasm to this day is still as high as when it all started back in the fall of 1989 when Jeff was bitten by the "palm bug." We are members of the International Palm Society, the Southern California Chapter, and the South African Chapter. In 1998, we received the Florida Nurseries and Growers Association's Grower of the Year Award. We at Searle Brothers Nursery, Inc. look forward to the opportunity to meet your needs.
